PAGE ONE RESULTS NOW POSITIVE OR NEUTRAL
NEGATIVE PHOTOS IN THE IMAGE PACK
The Situation
A private individual came to us after a single moment at a social gathering, years earlier, had become the first thing anyone found when they searched her name. The incident had been photographed, picked up by a national tabloid and then re-reported by outlets overseas. None of it reflected who she was, what she did for a living, or the volunteer work that filled her weekends.
She was not a public figure. She had no website, no professional profiles of note, and almost no online presence beyond the coverage itself. That absence was the real problem: with nothing else to show, Google and the AI assistants that draw on Google had only one story to tell.
When we took our baseline in February 2026, five of the ten results on Page One for her name were negative, eight of the top 20 were negative, and the image pack at the top of the page was filled with photos from that one evening.
The Challenge
The negative coverage could not be removed. It sat on high-authority news domains, it was accurate as far as it went, and no takedown request was going to succeed. The only path was to outrank it.
Three things made that harder than usual:
- A blank slate. There were no existing positive pages to strengthen. Every asset that would eventually outrank the coverage had to be created from nothing.
- Images, not just links. The most damaging element was the image pack. A reader who never clicked a single result still saw the photos. Suppressing text results would not be enough.
- A long tail of variations. Searches that paired her name with her city, her state or her alma mater surfaced the same coverage, so each of those variations needed its own attention.
She also wanted the work done quietly. The strategy could not draw fresh attention to the incident, and nothing we published could reference it.
Our Approach
We built a true online presence rather than a wall of filler. Every page was written to be the kind of result a search engine, and a person, would rather show than a tabloid story.
A personal website at her name
We registered the exact-match domain and launched a site that tells her story in her own voice: her professional background, the causes she gives her time to, and the people she mentors. It became the anchor every other asset points to.
Monthly content, on a schedule
A new long-form article goes live each month on a subject she cares about, written in the first person. The cadence keeps the site fresh in Google’s eyes and gives AI assistants a steady stream of current, accurate material about her.
A network of positive URLs
We created standalone one-page sites, guest articles on relevant publications and professional profiles, each optimized for her name, then built authority to them through editorial backlinks. These are the pages now occupying the positions the coverage used to hold.
Winning the image pack
We published a dedicated photo gallery and seeded fresh, well-labeled photos across the new pages. Google’s image results reward recent, relevant imagery, and the new photos steadily displaced the old ones.
Covering the variations
Secondary pages and sections were optimized for her name combined with her city, state and university, so the improvement held across every way someone might search.
Results to Date
Seven months in, Page One is almost entirely hers. Nine of the ten results for her name are now pages we created or neutral profiles, and the photos from that evening no longer appear in the image pack at all.
| Measure | February 2026 baseline | September 2026 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Negative results on Page One (top 10) | 5 | 1 | -80% |
| Negative results in the top 20 | 8 | 1 | -88% |
| Negative photos in the Google image pack | Multiple | 0 | Eliminated |
The one remaining Page One result, the original tabloid story, has fallen from position 2 to position 9, the bottom of Page One, and continues to slide as the newer assets gain authority.
Her personal site has grown from roughly 50 visitors a month in June to 120 in September, with about 70% arriving through Google organic search. One page of the new photo gallery already ranks on Page One for her name on its own.
The second-closest negative result, an overseas re-report, has dropped from position 19 to position 24, off Page Two entirely. And because the new pages are factual, current and written in her voice, they are the material AI assistants are increasingly drawing on when asked about her.
The Takeaway
Search engines and AI assistants show what they have. When the only material about a person is one bad night, that is the story they tell. Give them a fuller, truer picture, kept current, and they tell that one instead.
